Who Put Tangerine in My Beer?
I’ve tried a few fruit-flavored beers in my time — all with mixed results.
Some have barely had any discernible fruit flavor in them. Others were just kind of boring.
But then along comes Lost Coast Brewery’s Tangerine Wheat beer to restore my confidence in this type of brewski.
The Eureka-based brewery infuses golden wheat beer with real tangerine.
In fact, you can see a bit of pulp floating around the bottom of each bottle. Always a promising sign.
Pop the top off and the invigorating fragrance of citrus wafts from the bottle. Another very good sign.
Take a sip and the hoppy bitterness gives way to a bracing clementine flavor.
A six-pack is $7.99.
I purchased mine at Zanotto’s market in San Jose’s Rose Garden neighborhood.
And I have my seat-mates at the Zanotto wine dinner I attended last year to thank for turning me on to this marvelous beer. Regulars of both Zanotto’s beer and wine events, they had tasted this beer at the store and just adored it. I can see why. It’s definitely a novel and delicious way to get your dose of Vitamin C.

I’m always skeptical when it comes to flavored beer (I think I only had some once and didn’t care for it much). This sounds good; I’ll have to give it a try!
Sounds good! I’ll bet that beer would be particularly tasty in a frosty-cold mug on a hot summer day.
That looks really unusual. I’m not usually a beer fan because the taste is too yeasty for my personal preferences (I’m not a huge Champagne girl for the same reason). However, I have to say that for me flavoreed beers are more doable because there is sometimes some sweetness or fruitness to balance out the yeastiness and the bitterness. I had a sip of a watermelon beer once (skeptically because it sounds awful) and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it.).

I tried Buffalo Bill’s blueberry beer that they have and it was a little too dark for me, but this looks really good and light! I will have to give it a try. Your pictures of everything you post are really nice.
I’m with you–and others writing here: not much with the fruit beers. But I do like those Belgian wheats that often get a slice of orange floating in them. So this seems a winner. I’ll have to ask for it when we’re out in the Bay Area in April.
I live about three hours away from Eureka and the bars/stores around here stock Tangerine Wheat in abundance. It’s really good. It’s my favorite bear next to Blue Moon, which also has a hint of orange. I’ve had fruit beer before, but never really cared for it. Try this one though! It’s worth it!

I have to say, I’m a bit skeptical, since I’m not a big fan of citrus flavors. But if Carolyn the distinguished foodie says it’s good, I wanna try it!
Speaking of champagne, has anybody else noticed what a bargain some of the Spanish Cavas are in comparison to Champagnes and Sparkling Wines?
I am quite partial to fruit wheat beers and would be interested to try this one. Must look out for it on my next trip to the States.

The only fruity beer I’ve tried is that raspberry flavored one Framboise. Truth be told it’s the only beer I can actually drink a full glass of. I’m not much of a beer gal, but tangerine beer sounds right up my alley!
That sounds pretty good! I’m not really a beer person but I do like lighter wheat ales. Sea Dog, a microbrew company near where I’m from, has a blueberry wheat ale that always managed to show up at every gathering of my friends. The local 7-11 even sells it it’s so popular! Tastes like a beery blueberry muffin.
I love beer so I will need to try this out. I’m a big fan of the Apricot flavored beer by Pyramid (brewery in Berkeley).
I’ll have to look for this. I like a few types of fruity beers, and one of fav’s is Pyramid’s Apricot Ale. Tangerine sounds interesting!

I’m not a beer drinker – I’m more of a wine gal – but I bet my husband would be all over this. He loves citus fruits.
Another good beer is brewed in Louisiana, Its called Abita Strawberry. Its an amber beer and has great finishing notes of strawberry. Its seasonal though, but its strawberry season now so you should be able to get some.

I had this beer last month while visiting Oregon. I loved it!! I’m desperately trying to find someone who distributes this brand in Texas to no avail. It is the best flavored beer i’ve tasted!
