Screamin’ for Ice Cream

Los Gatos’ Silver Moon, which makes ice creams and sorbets with high-end liqueurs, has just launched two new tipsy flavors.

They are: Lavender Limoncello sorbet and Bourbon Vanilla Bean ice cream.

What with the recent heat spell, I couldn’t wait to dig a spoon into the samples I received recently.

In both new flavors, the boozy-ness is very subtle, mostly as a back-note.

The Lavender Limoncello reminded me of refreshing frozen lemonade on a summer’s day. The lavender was barely noticeable, which might be a plus for so many folks who often find the potpourri-like herb too strong to begin with. Half a cup of the sorbet has only 100 calories and no cholesterol or fat.

The Bourbon Vanilla Bean, laced with flecks of vanilla seeds, was nicely rich. The vanilla flavor was amplified because of the bourbon, though, the corn-based whiskey, itself, was not at all in-your-face. I’d tell you the caloric count, but uh, I forgot to look before the hubby and I devoured the pint. I guess you can tell we liked it.

Find Silver Moon ice cream and sorbets at Northern California Whole Foods stores, as well as Andronico’s, Draeger’s, and Cosentino’s.

A pint is $7.99. Moreover, the ice cream containers all sport a 55-cent-off coupon (good through August), thanks to the California Milk Advisory Board’s “Real California Milk” promotion.
