Cool New Water Bottle and Food Gal Giveaway
Camelbak, maker of those nifty water packs for biking and hiking, wants you to get into the Groove.
A new portable filtration water bottle to be exact.
The Camelbak Groove is a reusable water bottle that comes with its own carbon filter built into the drinking straw. Fill the bottle with tap water, and as you sip, the water is filtered before it hits your mouth. The straw has a bite valve — the same one apparently used by NASA astronauts in space — that locks into place when not in use, so you don’t have to worry about spills or leaks.
It’s great to stash in your car or to keep at your desk. Or tote one in your purse or briefcase. No more spending money on disposable water bottles or worrying about recycling them.
The 20-ounce bottle is made of BPA-free plastic and comes in four colors. It sells for $25. Replacement carbon filters (each of which should last for up to 60 gallons) cost $10 for a two-pack.
The Grooves are available online at the Camelbak Web site or at stores such as Target.
Contest: I’m happy to be able to give away one Camelback Groove to each of five lucky Food Gal readers. Entries, limited to those in the continental United States, will be accepted through midnight PST May 14. Winners will be announced May 16.
How to win?
Just tell me what favorite beverage you wish you could have by your side all the time — and why. Best five responses win.
Here’s my own answer to that question:
“Champagne. OK, I know if this were truly possible, I’d be buzzed all the time and that wouldn’t be so good. But how can you not love a beverage that is so associated with celebrations and happy times? Having it by my side all the time would no doubt insure that life would be nothing but smiles and laughter from here to eternity.”
Winners of the Previous Contest: In last week’s Food Gal contest, I asked you to tell me which anniversary (of any kind) that was particularly memorable or that you most look forward to. Five winners will each receive both a one-pound bag of Peet’s Coffee Anniversary Blend and a tin of Peet’s Anniversary Breakfast Blend tea.
Congrats to the winners:
1) Laurel, who wrote, “Although our wedding anniversary is on Memorial weekend, my husband and I always celebrate the day we met with more romance. We met June 17, 1988 at a concert my husband was producing on the Sacramento River. It took my husband close to an hour to convince me that I could go back stage. Once I agreed to go I ended up hanging out with Dana Carvey while my husband was doing his job. I’ve been having fun ever since.”
2) Kelly, who wrote, “My favorite anniversary is the anniversary of when I adopted my dog. It was a very unusual circumstance as I got the dog from a co-worker. We were traveling for business when he casually mentioned he planned to take his dog to the ‘pound.’ I had not been even thinking about getting a dog, it wasn’t even on my radar. However, when my co-worker mentioned it and proceeded to show me a picture of the pup on his smartphone I knew it was all over. That was 2 years ago and the dog (who I have now named Oliver) and I have been inseparable since. Seeing him in my family it’s hard to imagine he ever lived with another family; he fits so effortlessly and comically with us that it all seems natural.”
3) Arlene, who wrote, “The anniversary I look forward to the most is my work anniversary in Oct 26, 2011 when I will have 5 yrs with the company. I want to be vested ASAP, but with all the layoffs I hope to still be employed. Wish Oct 26 was here tomorrow!”
4) Judy, who wrote, “We celebrated out 25th wedding anniversary last September with an 80’s themed party to reminisce that fun and oddball era when we got hitched. All are friends came dressed in costume, we played games, had 80’s karaoke and my son gave the most amazing toast from his observations of our marriage and as parents. It was awesome!”
5) AMG, who wrote, “My husband probably won’t like it that I’m not going to go with our wedding anniversary . . . . But my most memorable anniversary has been the 5th anniversary of my father’s kidney transplant, which was this past February. My dad suffered from debilitating, diabetic-related kidney disease for many years, and eventually needed a transplant. My mother’s best friend (in a really beautiful display of selflessness, I think) was the first to come forward and offer to donate. And lo and behold, she was a match! Five years later, it is so wonderful to see my dad in such great health; he is like a different person since his operation. And the bond between him and my mom’s friend is really amazing to see.”
Yay! I’m so excited to win the coffee and tea. I haven’t had Peet’s since I was last in CA so I will definitely put that to good use. I assume you will need my contact info so let me know how I should get it to you.
And as for the drink I would want at me at all times…sadly, it’s Diet Coke. I have a HORRIBLE addiction. Everyone teases me about it and I’ve been told by my co-workers it goes against my ‘foodie’ persona but every morning, without fail I have a GIANT cup from McDonalds because I swear they blend it best. Yes, I’m weird.
Water!
Definitely water. I don’t know why but I have never really liked other sweet drinks, caffeinated drinks, or soda. I guess it’s a good thing though. Water keeps me hydrated & healthy. I <3 Water!! 🙂
Hey, this is great! And we love Peet’s. Can’t wait to get my coffee and tea. Thanks for all the good giveaways.
My son’s lemonade. Even though he often leaves the mess behind, the fact that he so proudly mixes and shares his made-from-scratch creation, makes it my favorite thing to drink.
OJ. It’s not just for breakfast anymore!
Ok, this answer appears to be pandering, but my favorite drink is water. Cold water Preferably with ice. My husband hates that the first thing I ask him to do in the morning is bring me water from the fridge! Carbonated water is a close 2d! Ahhhh!!
First congratulations to the winners…and I’d have water with a slice of lemon/lime and a couple of mint leaves.
Coconut water and water mixed. It is totally thirst quenching and when it warm it taste just as good as ice cold!
I like water too, but to be different: a banana/strawberry/spinach smoothie. Yum.
I’d hate to copy you but mine would be a glass of bubbly as well, but not just any bubbly, but Mumm’s DVX. Why? Cuz my hubby and I discovered it on our very first Napa trip and ever since then, every time I’ve had it, it’s been a very special memory. The next time we had it, it was our first trip to Napa with his parents and the third was the day he proposed. *sigh…
Must be karma that you ask the day after I was at Blue Bottle Coffee in the SF Ferry Building. Its coffees have such depth that I’d want a cappuccino within arm’s reach, at all times.
Of course, I may never sleep again – but ahhhhh.
Swizzle. What’s Swizzle? It’s an inexact combination of iced black tea and orange juice. As far as I know Swizzle’s a family name for this combo. I associate it especially with my Dad and my family when we were still all together under one roof.
herbal tea!
My favorite beverage I wish I could have by my side at all times is San Pellegrino Sparkling Mineral Water from Italy. I like it very cold (with or without ice) in a tall glass. It’s the most refreshing drink ever and I feel rich & glamorous drinking it, especially when I’m at a nice restaurant since I don’t like alcohol it’s my drink of choice, plus it’s got 0 calories!!
Congratulations to all of the winners 🙂 And hehe champagne is a very good answer and I might have guessed that for you! 😉
The first thing that came to mind, was Whole Food’s Italian Sparkling Water, I can’t get enough of that lately; but then I thought Champagne…really good champagne that would never give you a hangover!
Honestly, it’s water. I carry it with me all the time, and it is to the point that food doesn’t taste right when I drink anything else. I love the idea of the filter in the drinking straw. Ingenious!!
That water bottle looks like it would make for an ideal running partner! If I could, I would carry Cherry Lime Rickey’s with me everywhere. I used to get them at this one breakfast place in brooklyn with my ex-bf and they absolutely made my life.
My favorite beverage is a good chocolate egg cream. It has all the ingredients I love. Chocolate, seltzer and milk. It is like having a soda but a healthier one.
i’d have to say water. boring, yes, but nothing makes me sigh with contentment more than a slurp of cold water on a hot day. the drawback of having this by my side at all times is that i’ll need a bag attached to my bladder as well so i’m not jetting off to the bathroom every 10 minutes… 🙂
Another water drinker here. It quenches my thirst, and doesn’t upset my stomach like coffee and soda sometimes do.
Now that is it spring it would have to be a large ice coffee. I love that firt sip cause it just screams out carefree. Then I try to drink the rest while my three boys run around me!
I’d love to have next to me…at all times: juice. Specifically my new concoction which is juiced Celery, Cucumbers and Pineapple! It’s awesome because it’s so healthy and makes you feel awesome!
Contest is now closed. Come back Monday to see who won and for the start of a brand new contest.
