SusieCakes Comes to Menlo Park

SusieCakes, which started in Southern California but has spread to these northern parts, is opening its newest location at 642 Santa Cruz Ave. in downtown Menlo Park.

The bakery, know in particular for its old-fashioned cakes and cupcakes, already has two other Bay Area locations: San Francisco and Marin County.

Join in the grand opening ceremony at the Menlo Park bakery, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. March 24. Dust off your favorite poodle skirt for an old-fashioned sock hop with 50’s tunes. Best costume wins a prize. There will be plenty of cupcakes, cookies and bars to sample, too.

Porchetta Sundays at Brassica in the Napa Valley

After a weekend of wine tasting, there’s nothing better than a big hunk ofร‚ย  juicy, slow-cooked pork to go along with it.

Every Sunday night now at Chef Cindy Pawlcyn’s Brassica in St. Helena, they’re serving up porchetta — a whole loin of pork stuffed with garlic, rosemary, fennel fronds and fennel pollen, then roasted in a Caja China charcoal oven for 3 1/2 hours.

The tender meat is served gigante white beans and braised seasonal greens — all for $22 per person.

“Taste of Yountville” Rolls Into Town

March 24, noon to 5 p.m., the town of Yountville, which boasts more Michelin stars per capita than any other place around, will host its 19th annual “Taste of Yountville” block party.

All up and down Washington Street, restaurants and wineries will be offering up noshes and sips. Tasting tickets are $1 each.

Among those participating will be: Bouchon Bistro, Bottega, Redd, Jessup Cellars and Domaine Chandon.

Tours of the fabled French Laundry garden will also be led by its gardener, Tucker Taylor.

  • Dear Carolyn

I can’t agree more with you on a chunky piece of meat for dinner after wine tasting especially a piece of that pork although I would keep the wine flowing through dinner.

  • We can always use more cupcakes! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • I see we need to make a trip to see my inlaws in St. Helena sometime soon. The Porchetta sounds wonderful and I’m pretty much a fan of anything Chef Pawlcyn does.

  • That porcetta looks delicious and for $22 that’s a really good deal. I would love that followed by a few of those cupcakes – that would be a very memorable meal xx

  • That picture of the porchetta is amazingly tantalising! And for $22? That’s amazing. I don’t think many places would do it for that here.

  • I didn’t know about susiecakes, and I plan to try it next time in the area! I was in Yountville area last weekend just for dinner without kids (and 2 quick wine tasting) and realized how much I missed that place. I thought I can retire there..lots of great restaurant and beautiful. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for all these info – I always enjoy reading via email. ๐Ÿ™‚
