Celebrate Persian New Year at Zaré at Flytrap in San Francisco
Persian New Year begins March 20, the first day of spring. And Zaré at Flytrap restaurant in San Francisco is gearing up to celebrate in a big way.
Chef-owner Hoss Zaré, a native of Iran, will be hosting his first Persian New Year’s Celebration at his restaurant, a short hop from the W Hotel.
Think communal tables, where you can mingle and make new friends over a family-style spread of traditional dishes such as frog legs with pomegranate walnut sauce; and Thai snapper with fennel, winter vegetables and Persian pickle tartar.
Price is $56 per person, plus an additional $30 for unlimited paired wines.
The March 15 kick-off dinner is already sold out. But there’s still room to pull up a seat to the dinners on March 16 or March 17.
If you can’t make any of those, no worries. As in Iran, Zaré at Flytrap will continue the celebration for two weeks with nightly specials and traditional noodle soup. The noodles are a must, as they symbolize a life free from worry. And we all want that, right?

I would go just for the frog legs with pomegranate walnut sauce…the last time I was offered frog legs was when I was 8 and stupid. I refused to eat it! Ah! missed the opportunity of a lifetime!
I’ve heard such great things about this place but have not made it there yet. Hmm – need to set up a meeting around there to stop by for some soup.
So I’m dying to know what that is in the picture; sorbet of some sort? It looks really refreshing.
