Licorice Love
Leave it to Nell Newman (Paul’s daughter) to come up with the first organic licorice twists.
In fruity wonderful flavors, too.
Newman’s Own Organics new licorice also is low in fat, sodium and cholesterol, and contains no trans-fat. Five twists have 130 calories.
Besides traditional black, the licorice also comes in three fruit flavors: Strawberry, Pomegranate and Tangerine. The latter three are not only fruity tasting but fruity smelling. They’re a little softer in texture than your average Red Vines, yet still plenty chewy. They’re not overly sweet, either.
I especially like the pomegranate one for its almost holiday berry relish flavor. There’s real pomegranate juice concentrate in them. And the tangerine licorice boasts tangerine essential oil.
“When I was a kid I loved licorice because it was so much fun to eat,” says Nell Newman, co-founder and president of Newman’s Own. “I loved the chewy texture, and you could stretch it and tie it in knots or bite off the ends and blow through it.”
A five-ounce package is $2.99 at Whole Foods stores.
Other Fun Sweets: Matcha Kit Kat Bars
And: Aussie Tim Tams
And: Dragon Beard Candy from Hong Kong
And: Goat Milk Caramels
And: Lard Caramels
This is the most gorgeous licorice I’ve ver seen. I didn’t know Newman’s Own made these.
Those look so good! Pretty too.
Cheers,
Rosa

I will search everywhere to find this licorice… I used to love licorice when I was young, I’m sure I will adore this one.
This sounds amazing, I am definitely going to get this at whole foods!! One of my favorite licorices is Kookaburra, strawberry and mango flavors.
Ooooh, I’ll look for these at the market. I don’t like regular black licorice but these I’ll eat!
I love licorice but had pretty much given it up as it is so unnatural, I think I will give this one a try though!
Organic licorice strips, yummy!! I love the look of the flavors too.
I love licorice, so the thought of organic licorice is very interesting to me!
Sounds like a pretty darn good stocking stuffer for my occasionally-hard-to-buy-for daughter-in-law. Thanks,Carolyn!
I never really like licorice but if it is fruity, I am not sure. Can use as a straw? ;p …LOL
I wish they have licorice like this here.. it will make a the best gift for my hubby this Christmas.
OK….we’re going to come to a parting of the way here, I really have never liked licorice! But the fruity ones? Perhaps I’d try.
I’m definitely going to look for this! The tangerine flavor sounds fantastic!
I love licorice. This makes me feel good that now there’s an organic version of a delicious candy. Mmm!
Somehow I’ve never been a fan of licorice (the regular ones) but fruity ones sound better ๐
I had no idea that she was involved in the food business! ๐ Actually I didn’t know that he had a daughter ๐
ok now we’re talking. i love a healthy version of licorice. i don’t like black at all but love the others and sadly never eat it because of all the chemicals and junk.
i hope my whole foods carries these. i get those awful sugar cravings right before bed and this would be better to eat than peppermint patties.
What a surprising product…but one I will definitely look for!
I am so getting these next time I am in the store. I hope that my Kroger carries them… pomegranite, tangerien..yummo… beautiful pictures
I didn’t even know that licorice could come in flavours other than the usual… well, what we call around here “licorice”, the black stuff. Sounds like an interesting thing.
Love the brillant colors….how many didnt flavors are there?
