British Crisps Debut in the U.S.
Crisps? That’s potato chips to you and me.
Tyrrells, the U.K. snack producer, recently launched its products in the United States, including at Andronico’s and Draeger’s markets in the Bay Area.
I had a chance to try samples of the chips, which are made from potatoes and other veggies grown in the Herefordshire countryside in England.
The English crisps come in some rather unusual flavors, including Honey Roast Ham & Cranberry; Lobster, Chili & Garlic, and Sunday Best Roast Chicken.
I sampled the slightly more mundane flavors, including Worcester Sauce & Sundried Tomato, which has a slight sweetness from tomato and an umami kick from the Worcester sauce.
The chips are plenty crisp, and not too oily. The Sweet Chile & Red Pepper is rather addictive with an almost sriracha-like kick of fruity heat.
The Mature Cheddar & Chives has an almost onion dip flavor. The cheddar flavor is not dominant, but there is a nice piquant note from it.
My favorite, though, were the Beetroot, Parsnip & Carrot Crisps with A Pinch of Sea Salt. Each chip tastes different in this mix. The beetroot ones are quite earthy, the carrots sweet, and the parsnips nutty tasting.
All Tyrrells’ chips are gluten-free and fried in sunflower oil. A one-ounce serving has about 140 to 150 calories, depending upon the variety.
A 5.3-ounce bag is about $3.99.
I love Tyrells chips!!!
Cheers,
Rosa
I’d love to try these chips!
This is dangerous! Lobster and Honey Roast Ham sound like fun flavors to try.
Tasty looking crisps!
Lobster? Really? That would be interesting. I think you chose the same ones I would have chosen. They all sound really good, but I have to be careful, because once I start eating a chip I like, I can’t stop.
These sound great! We rarely eat potato chips because, well, once we start we don’t stop until the bag is finished! I’ll definitely be looking for these, though – they sound terrific. Thanks!
These sound great. I especially love beet chips, I make them myself. I feel like I could eat them all day since they’re so healthy. Mine aren’t fried but I bet these are better.
I love the fun flavours of British crisps! Maybe one day they’ll make it to Canada. 🙂
Hehe we had this sort of confusion when I was just in the US 😛 I kept calling fried chips and confusing everyone! 😆
Tyrrells were my kids favorite chips when we traveled throughout New Zealand and Australia! They will be psyched to know that the can now walk 5 minutes to our neighborhood Andronico’s to get a bag:)

Mature cheddar has a such a great ring to the name. 🙂
Tyrell’s has been available in France for quite a while and I have to say that I am addicted to the Beetroot, Parsnip & Carrot Crisps. I love them. I have had the cheddar ones, as well. I buy them to take with me when I travel by air 🙂
These crisps are delicious! Salt and vinegar are my favourite. But I agree, horribly addictive!
