Take A Taste of Mariam’s Garlic Dip
How many times have you smacked your lips over a sauce or condiment at a restaurant, and thought, “This is incredible! They should bottle it and sell it.”
Mariam Elghani did just that with the luscious Lebanese garlic dip her family created at their Falafel Bite Mediterranean Grill in Sunnyvale.
Mariam’s Garlic Goodness is now available in grocery stores across California, including Andronico’s, Berkeley Bowl, Woodlands Market, Gus’s Community Market, and Rainbow Grocery. The 8-ounce tubs are about $5.99 each.
This dip will hook you from the first dunk, as I found when I tried samples recently.
There are three varieties: Garlic, Jalapeno, and Chili Pepper. They are all vegan, made with sunflower oil, garlic from Gilroy, lemon juice, lemon oil, and extra virgin olive oil.
The dips are potent with garlic, smooth and creamy, and rich tasting. They are much like aioli in taste and texture.
The regular Garlic one definitely can stand on its own with its bright citrus zing. The Chili Pepper one is fairly spicy, with a warmth that doesn’t singe but beckons you to slather on more and more.
The dips can be enjoyed simply with pita chips or crudites. Or alongside steamed artichokes or grilled asparagus spears. Or slathered on sandwiches. Or spooned over grilled seafood or chicken. Or dolloped on a baked potato.
