Viva La Gourmet Foods

Foodies who used to line up for hours when the fab Made in France/Village Imports would occasionally open its gourmet warehouse to the public, will rejoice at the news:

The former owners have opened a retail store, the Gourmet Corner, 873 N. San Mateo Drive in San Mateo (three blocks south of the Burlingame train station), which is open daily, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The duck confit, rich pates, cheeses galore, and European-style yogurts you couldn’t wait to get your hands on before are now conveniently available all the time. For more information, call (650) 340-6370.

Bon appetit!

  • I read about that, can’t wait to try it. What do you recommend?

  • I think it’s either a coffee yogurt or coffee custard in a jar/plastic container. Oh man, if you like coffee, it’s sooooo good — creamy, rich, and like coffee candy in custardy-form. Mmmmmm.

  • at warehouse prices?

Oh wait, you said “former owners”. What’s the story behind that?

  • Don’t know the full story yet, Nate, as I haven’t made a trek to the new store. But yes, the prices are supposed to be quite good in keeping with the nature of the old warehouse sales. But we’ll see once I get there.
