Subaba has cooked at such illustrious establishments as the Restaurant at Meadowood in St. Helena, Murray Circle at Cavallo Point in Sausalito, Madera at the Rose Wood Sand Hill in Menlo Park, and the Village Pub in Woodside.

At Viognier, located on top of Draeger’s market in downtown San Mateo, he’s bringing an approachable elegance to the fare.

If you love fresh oysters, you won’t want to miss the 1 p.m. Sept. 23 cooking demo at Macy’s Valley Fair in Santa Clara with yours truly and Chef David Baron of Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette.

Baron will demonstrate how to jazz up oysters with toppings of kimchi butter; “Bloody Mary” and green apple; and finger lime-tarragon.

St. John is responsible for all those tantalizing croissants, kouign-amanns, fruit danishes, and other pastries that tempt at Manresa Bread’s Los Gatos and Los Altos shops, as well as its stands at the Campbell and Palo Alto California Avenue farmers markets.

MacysIlFornaioWhen the newest Il Fornaio opened in November in Santa Clara, it made history in the company when it became the first of its 23 restaurants to debut with a female head chef at the helm.

Chef Leslie Pineda not only made the record books for this 30-year-old restaurant chain, but she sure can cook. You can see — and taste — for yourself when she joins me for a cooking demo at Macy’s Valley Fair in Santa Clara, 6 p.m. Feb. 7.
